NO MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENTS

The Norland Connect-Chek ® CC6000 is the next generation of interferometric technology for fiber optic testing. This new system uses proprietary software that enables it to evaluate the key parameters without the need for costly phase-shifting devices.  The CC6000 uses our unique Tilted Phase Analysis ( TPA ) in which the connector is held at a slightly tilted angle to produce circular fringes across the fiber.  This provides all the information needed to measure the connector.  After a simple calibration to measure the tilt,  the advanced algorithms enable our CC6000 to calculate the spherical radius of curvature.  Also the spherical fiber height, and apex offset for the connector.  An added advantage of TPA is that any small angle is suitable, so no mechanical adjustments are ever required.  

EASY TO USE Interface (PC APC auto pass-fail low-cost end face geometry)

The CC6000's user interface is ultra-simple with every option visible under intuitive Menu Tabs. Just a click of the mouse calls up the Measure, Setup, Calibration, or History Window. Everything is preset to allow pass/fail measurements of PC and APC connectors using IEC, Telcordia, or your own custom standards. Precision mounts are available for all types of connectors and ferrules. Data can be saved to any directory on a network and imported to any database or spreadsheet.  

PRECISION OFFSET MEASUREMENTS

The CC 6000 is extremely robust and designed for accurate measurements in production, laboratory or field environments.   Precision offset measurements are guaranteed due to our patented locking v-groove mount.  Consequently holding the connector in an exact, repeatable position during calibration and measurement. The system is optimized to provide unsurpassed stability so that a single offset calibration will last for weeks.   Mounts are available for 2.5 mm., 2 mm., 1.25 mm., and 0.0625” diameter connector ferrules. In addition to measuring connectors, it can also measure the radius of curvature and apex offset of pre-radiused bare ferrules.   The CC6000 features PC APC auto pass-fail low-cost end-face geometry.  There is nothing else like the Norland Connect-Chek ® CC6000 – Accurate, affordable, and easy to use.

What is different about the CC6000?

NORLAND PRODUCTS INC. has taken a whole new approach to interferometric measurements of fiber optic connectors with the CC6000. As a result, the benefit to the customer is affordable quality control and quality assurance of high-performance fiber optic connectors.

 Unique Tilted Phase

Interferometry creates a circular fringe pattern on the connector. It is easiest to visualize this pattern as a topographical map of the surface. Each fringe is ½ a wavelength distance above or below the adjacent fringe and shows the 3D height difference across the surface. The spherical radius of curvature and spherical offset are directly correlated to the diameter and spacing of these circular fringe patterns.   Our unique algorithms take advantage of the extra information available when the connector is tilted slightly off-axis to measure the fiber height. The spherical fiber height measurement is available because any change in the circular fringe pattern as it crosses the fiber is an indication of spherical protrusion or undercut. Accurate measurements are made because the change in fiber height is proportional to this change.

PRECISION OFFSET MEASUREMENTS

Another novel feature is the ability to calculate the apex offset of the polish even in the preset tilted position. When the connector is perpendicular to the optical path, the apex offset is the distance from the center of the fiber to the highest point of the polish. Rotating the connector will not change the offset measurements because the center of the fiber is the center of rotation for the ferrule.   If the connector is held in a tilted position to the optical path, the apex offset is the distance from the center of rotation to the highest point of the polish. With the CC6000, the center of rotation is calculated for any mount by measuring the connector in 8 positions. The multiple apex points define a circle with the center being the center of rotation. Once this calibration is performed on a mount, the apex offset measurements can be accurately calculated for all connectors measured in that mount.

These are just two of the unique concepts used to create CC6000. For you, the customer, this breakthrough in technology means there is no other instrument on the market that can match it for fast, accurate, and affordable measurements of end-face geometry for PC/APC connectors.

Thorlabs Acquires Fiber Optic Product Line from Norland Products

Newton, NJ - October 25, 2018 -Thorlabs announced today that it has entered into a definitive asset purchase agreement to acquire the Fiber Optic Portfolio of Norland Products Inc. and has made the GL16 All-in-One Interferometer and CC6000 portable Interferometer available for purchase through its website. Headquartered in Cranbury, New Jersey, Norland is a global leader in the development of high-performance UV curing adhesives and interferometric test equipment for the fiber optic industry as well as a distributor of high-purity fish gelatin and fish collagen used in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

The Norland products will be incorporated into Thorlabs’ existing Vytran® business unit, a 20,000 square foot facility located in Morganville, New Jersey. The Vytran team designs and manufactures an array of products geared towards high-volume optical fiber processing and assembly, including high-precision fusion splicers, cleavers, recoaters, and proof testers. Their technologies are utilized in a broad range of precision applications ranging from telecommunications and medical components to fiber lasers and sensing systems.
